North Coast 500

The North Coast 500 route around the north of Scotland is a bit of a victim of its own success.  It is a remote and wildly beautiful part of the country which deservedly draws tourists in their thousands.  It also, though, deserves the time taken to truly experience it and to get away from the crowd.  500 miles is a long way and there is a huge area of wild landscape enclosed within it, so step away from the main road and find the true wilderness.  Take your time.  The paintings you see here are from half a dozen trips taken to different spots along the route.  Some of the images you see here may be familiar to those who have taken a trip along the NC500, while some of the others may encourage a wee side trip next time.

If you have never been along the route, try the video slide show at the bottom of the page which takes you from John O'Groats to Plockton in a series of paintings, sketches and photos.
